Watch the Case Study Video

We have no idea what the future is. We can’t change the past ‘cause
it’s finished. but we can do something about the moment.

One day we had an idea that pointed us to our trash. It all began with an incredible insight. Research has shown that Alzheimer’s patients can use coloring as a form of expression. Coloring is great for those with memory loss or impairment of motor skills.

How we turned trash
into a coloring book
for alzheimer’s

We sketch a lot. It’s something that we love to do, and it’s something that we are paid to do.

Despite our best efforts, some of our drawings never make the cut. We call it: creative surplus.

So, one day we thought: wouldn’t be cool if we can turn our creative surplus into something with a purpose?

That’s when we went into our trash and came up with a handful of unused and uncolored drawings.

We selected 40 of them, printed them, bundled them up and made them into a coloring book.

Not for kids, but for Alzheimer’s patients.

What we often consider useless and unworthy
can have a bigger purpose in life.

When you realize how much love can do for a person because of what you can give, you can change lives around you.

We partnered with Alzheimer's Foundation of America to distribute “Beautiful Minds” to its community. Our coloring book, completely free of charge, is meant as a form of expression for those suffering from Alzheimer's who have difficulty communicating verbally.

A Beautiful Mind

Carmen Minero was one of the first Alzheimer’s patients to color “Beautiful Minds”. Her caregiver told us that Carmen truly enjoyed working on the book and began to remember things from her past, like her love for cats.

When a mind gets robbed,
we must do what every good neighbor does.
help replace as much as we can of what was taken.

Out in the Streets

“Beautiful Minds" was distributed at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Los Angeles earlier in November 2019.
It has also been shared with Alzheimer’s advocates, actors Vivica Fox and Victor Garber.
The book is currently being distributed at nursing homes, specializing for those with memory loss.

Inside the Studio

KIIS-FM invited us to their studio to record a community-service segment about “Beautiful Minds”. The segments aired on December 15th on four local stations at four different times of the day. Due to the success of the episode and the many requests of the book, the producers of the radio decided to have a rerun on January 2nd, 2020.

“I heard your segment on SiriusXM and was very intrigued with the coloring book your agency created for Alzheimer’s patients. My mother, Margaret, is 82 and currently living with Dementia. We have her in an ALF in the Tampa area as she needs 24 hour supervision.  My brother and I are looking for activities that she can do that can help her.  The coloring book sounds like a wonderful activity that may help her in triggering more memories. ”

“I just heard about these coloring books via KIIS FM Los Angeles on XM Radio and was so touched and inspired by the story behind the books. My grandfather suffered for years from dementia and passed away this past August. I would like to see if I can get 4 copies of the book sent to me to give to my mom, grandma, uncle and aunt (his immediate family). It would be the most meaningful Christmas gift this year”

IMPACT

Over 230 Million media impressions were generated with key hits including Market Watch, Yahoo Finance, Morning Star and by local media in key markets across the country. 13 nursing homes in the US received the book, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s coordinator requested 300 copies for their caregivers, and the Education Center of Alzheimer’s Foundation of America distributed hundreds of copies at their conferences. Academic Research Center in Chicago asked us to donate a portion of our creative waste (uncolored sketches) for the year 2021. Our coloring book, completely free of charge, has been helping more than 3,000 patients to ease agitation and aggression, and improve memory functions.
